The Thursday Night Regulars
Here's the story: a group of five guys (maybe including a girl or two) hold a weekly poker game at someone's house. The game gets out of hand.
Characters:
Our Hero: regular guy, just like you or me, but probably more like me. Plays low-stakes poker to grind out a bit of extra income every month, but his regular group is starting to resent him for taking their money every damn time. He considers these people a stepping stone to the greatness that inevitably awaits him.
Benny: guy talks like a walking dictionary. He's always going off with sentences like, "Sorry, gentlemen, but my bibulous excesses of last evening have left me with an ague rivalling that caused by the bubonic plague." He's in love with James's girlfriend, who increasingly wants nothing to do with either of them.
Brad: Mormon, converted by the girl he's wanted to fuck since third grade (call him precocious). Never drinks, not supposed to gamble, but he's obsessed with the game and never misses a chance to partake when the gents assemble.
James: problem gambler. Has lost over 35 grand in various high-stakes poker games around the city, but can't admit he has a problem. Nobody else knows he's in so deep; they only know he's good for three to four hundred a night without batting an eyelash. Could this game be the big win he's been waiting for?
Jeanine: Brad's girlfriend, coveted by every dude at the table but ostensibly spoken for by Brad. Truth is, she's fucked every jock from here to Cook County, but now she's looking for a cut of the bigger action--the World Series of Poker. And if she can't get there herself, she's more than willing to bang the fella who will get her there.
