Chess is like life

In chess, there are players who see only one move at a time. Heedless, they blindly push wood around the board, abandoning piece after piece to the same old silly blunders and obvious traps, wondering why they keep losing. Yet they never take the time or effort to learn to see beyond that single ill-considered move.

Then there are players who see further ahead. So it is with life:
  • One move ahead: leaving stuff wherever you needed it last. This inevitably leads to room rummaging, drawer digging and laundry looting. Plus, it means you're a slob.
  • Two moves ahead: leaving stuff wherever you think you'll need it next. Nice on paper, but in practice, see "One move ahead."
  • Three moves ahead: leaving stuff in the same place every time. Greatly reduces the need to think about where the hell your stuff is. And when stuff is missing, you know about it a lot sooner.
