Tried the $5.50 tournaments again tonight. About three hands into a 27-player match, I ended up being the first to be knocked out. "You finished 27th out of 27 players," a little message helpfully informed me before I exited the table.
A few licked wounds later, I tried another 27-player tourney. Now, any decent player would tell you this was not a good idea. After such a hasty exit, I really ought not to have tried again so soon. That's how stupid decisions get made in this game. And stupid decisions have a tendency to cost you. Recklessness is easy to spot and easier to exploit.
Anyway, I ended up finishing third for a $24.00 win, enough to leave me with almost double the 20 dollars I kicked in yesterday. But despite this, and even though I played a calm and careful game—I played only 31 of the 192 hands I was dealt, and took down the pot on 25 of them—I still know it was a dumb move to try again so soon after that first loss.
